Description

This intensive, classroom-based social program is designed to enhance social competence among elementary school aged children. Decision making and problem solving skills are stressed in the program’s lesson plans, which have the overall goal of reducing violence and risk behaviors among children and increasing prosocial behavior.

Goal / Mission

To increase prosocial behavior among elementary school aged children.

Results / Accomplishments

A follow-up study was conducted six years after the social competence program was implemented in central New Jersey. The results of the study show beneficial effects for program recipients on indices of social adjustment and psychopathology when compared to controls.
