Strategies

• Strategy 1: Facilitate a network to align employers, training providers, and job seekers through incentives to connect training programs with living wage career opportunities.
• Strategy 2: Increase the number of opportunities for job shadowing, internships, and apprenticeship programs, to meet the demand of Coastal Georgia, particularly targeted to youth and young adults.
• Strategy 3: Increase capacity and opportunities for individuals to receive skills that lead to employment.
• Strategy 4: Create a working group of employers in support of employees being paid a living wage and having access to benefits.
• Strategy 5:  Advocate for policies and programs to increase employment opportunities for returning citizens and implement strategies that promote hiring of people impacted by the criminal justice system.
• Strategy 6: Enhance broader collaboration between workforce development entities to link jobs to employees by using clearing houses of apprenticeship and internship opportunities.

•  Strategy 1: Provide connections to education and trades to help the economically disadvantaged, justice involved, and individuals with behavioral health needs by providing a community-based scholarship program or similar incentive to help individuals navigate resources for educational programs.
• Strategy 2:Increase capacity of case management and mentorship to provide employment, wrap-around and support services for families.
• Strategy 3: Increase awareness and use of tax incentives for employers serving and employing those who qualify under the Work Opportunity Tax Credit. 
• Strategy 4:Prioritize and implement meaningful action with the entire community that addresses patterns of racial and ethnic inequities in housing, nutrition, healthcare, economic mobility, and wealth building.
• Strategy 5: Provide employers with best practices to increase retention and reduce turnover.
• Strategy 6: Increase awareness about, and access to, financial support services available to those living in the greatest impoverished zip codes.
• Strategy 7: Increase programming for returning citizens including connections to mental health, housing, workforce development, and basic transitional needs; especially those at high risk to re-offend.

• Strategy 1: Explore funding mechanisms in Chatham County to expand capacity of formal and informal systems in order to provide more financial support and mentorship to start-up businesses to provide a more diverse economy.
• Strategy 2: Increase efficiency of permitting and licensing policies for businesses through streamlining procedures and creating matching county and municipality requirements.
• Strategy 3: Increase employee up-skilling opportunities for career progression.
• Strategy 4: Develop policy including incentives for start-up of small and existing businesses.
• Strategy 5: Continue the use of historic preservation as an economic driver.
