The PedNet Coalition

A Good Idea

Description

The PedNet Coalition is a group of individuals, businesses, and non-profit organizations with a vision for the future of Columbia, in which it is safe and pleasant to walk, cycle, wheel, and skate throughout the city. The Coalition was formed after Columbia was selected by the Federal Highway Administration to receive a $25 million Non-Motorized Transportation Pilot Program grant in 2005. Using this grant, the Coalition plans to construct the PedNet, a proposed network of nature trails and urban "Pedways" that will connect residential subdivisions, employment centers, businesses, parks, schools, the public library, the recreation center, and Downtown.

Goal / Mission

The goal of the Coalition is to give citizens a real choice regarding the mode of transportation they elect for traveling to work, school, or recreaton as well as to encourage healthier lifestyles and a cleaner environment.

Results / Accomplishments

The PedNet Coalition has over 5,000 members dedicated to improving the quality of life in Columbia through the development of an integrated bicycling, wheeling, and pedestrian network.
