Transportation Solutions for Caregivers (TSC)

A Good Idea

Description

For most of us, transportation is a link to independence, quality of life and social interaction. This is especially true for older adults who no longer drive and are therefore reliant on others for their transportation needs. For this reason, it is important to support volunteer and other types of community-based transportation alternatives for the older persons and people with disabilities in our communities. Toward that end, Easter Seals has created a resource package for volunteer transportation programs with the help of many experts in the area of volunteer transportation and other stakeholder groups.

Goal / Mission

The purpose of Transportation Solutions for Caregivers: A Solutions Package for Volunteer Transportation Programs, is to provide some guidance and basic information to existing volunteer programs as well as those planning to start new ones. Through such programs, Easter Seals aspires to help communities meet the transportation needs and preference of older adults and their caregivers who reside therein and maintain a mobile older population.

Results / Accomplishments

By creating these materials for volunteer transportation programs Easter Seals is promoting the increased availability of low-cost, flexible transportation options for older adults and their caregivers.
